Help us tell the Palatine Park District to protect this treasure for the community.
Palatine Stables and its horses have been a part of the heritage of the Village of Palatine for over 70 years. More than just a riding facility, it is a cornerstone of our community's wellness and development, attracting residents from all over the nearby suburbs to participate in its wealth of programs.
On May 13th, the Palatine Park District Board of Commissioners made an abrupt decision to discontinue operations at Palatine Stables after more than 35 years as a Park District program, claiming that the facility's "advanced age and condition" compelled them to close the stable. This decision affects over 60 horses, staff, trainers, volunteers, and thousands of families, riders, and "little riders" in the community.
There was no warning or advance notification that the Park District was considering this action. The Board made the decision based on just one cost estimate for the repairs, raising serious questions of why the process was incomplete and rushed. The decision was also made without input from expert equestrian staff or the stable community concerning the welfare of the horses who live there, including 30 "school" horses who have been faithfully serving the stables, Park District, and community for years.

Palatine Stables has provided the families and children in the community with the opportunity to enjoy horses for decades. We are a group of current and past clients and friends of Palatine Stables who know how much the stable enriches and benefits the lives of so many in our community.
This is home for 60+ horses and ponies. We are especially concerned with their well being. The Park District must permit its staff the time and allocate the necessary resources to find homes and to safely relocate all of the horses and ponies whose home is Palatine Stables, most importantly, more than 30 "school" horses who have faithfully served the community.
